Sino-Italian UBPA project completed
Sino-Italian UBPA project is completed.

A Sino-Italian UBPA project was completed on 27th, March.

This project sits at the middle of the Urban Best Practices Area. The site used to be a power plant burning coal and the reconstruction has not changed much of the structure. It is consisted of three independent pavilions: B2 pavilion, B3-2 pavilion and C1 pavilion. All of them will join the trial Expo operation from April 20 to April 25.

B2 Pavilion's out wall bears the color of red bricks and the wall also has the cutout Chinese patterns. Sunlight could pass through glass wall into the pavilion, which helps both the lighting and indoor temperature control.

The material, which builds the out wall, was transported from Italy and can keep out cold or hot air as well as reduce the energy consumption of air conditioners. The material was popular in Rome and Florence, said Corrado Clini, director general of the Department for Environmental Research and Development of Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory (IMET).

The project building housed many UBPA cases such as the Bremen's UBPA case, Freiburg's UBPA case and Southern Chinese City Guangzhou's UBPA case. It will also house Italian’s UBPA cases. Italian's Venice case will showcase the preservation and reuse of historic relics and the country’s Bologna will showcase the culture creative industry and social toleration policy.

"The project has adopted a lot of advanced technologies and high quality materials to showcase environment-friendly architecture,” Massimo Roscigno, Italian consul general in Shanghai said during the ceremony.

"The Urban Best Practices Area is one of the two highlights of Expo 2010 and the earliest Sino-Italian cooperation on UBPA pavilions could date back to October, 2007", Huang Jianzhi, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, said.
